“This is a rightful dedication that pays homage to those who have written our history. Barbaro is a surname that belongs to the tradition of maritime commerce in Palermo, starting with the activities of the Florio family and continuing to the present day through five generations. Thanks to the Barbaro family, today we can afford to plan a further intensification of port commercial activities, within the framework of a comprehensive urban regeneration project for the southern coast of Palermo, in close synergy with the port authority.”
This statement was made by the Mayor of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla, on the occasion of the dedication ceremony of Pietro Barbaro Square, Shipowner and Maritime Captain (formerly part of Via Francesco Crispi), organized by the Pietro Barbaro Foundation.
